Ohio - School District and Local Withholding on W-2
1

If the school district tax withholding was not listed separately from the Ohio locality withholding on your Form W-2, enter the amounts in the Q&A interview as if they were listed separately to get the correct school district withholding amount to transfer to Ohio Form SD 100 School District Income Tax Return.

To report your Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement in the TaxAct program:

    1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal (on smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen, then click Federal).
    2. Click the Wages and Salaries dropdown, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
    3. Click + Add Form W-2 to create a new copy of the form or click Edit to edit a form already created (desktop program: click Review instead of Edit).
    4. On the 1st line, in Box 15, choose Ohio from the drop-down menu. Enter the locality withholding in Box 19 and select Ohio Locality in Box 20.
    5. On the 2nd line, in Box 15, choose Ohio from the drop-down menu. Enter the school district withholding in Box 19 and select the Ohio School District in Box 20.

If it's your first time through the Q&A, just follow the interview process. On the screen titled What kind of income did you have in 2022?, click the checkbox next to Worked as an employee (Form W-2).

Then go to the Ohio Q&A interview to indicate the specific school district number for each Form W-2 in the return:

    1. Click State, then click Ohio (or OH). On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click State.
    2. Click School District Return and then click Yes.
    3. Click Review to review each of the Forms W-2 listed and on the following screen select the correct school district name in the drop-down field next to the school district withholding amount.

If you have already entered the Ohio School District Number on Ohio Form IT-1040 (done at the very beginning of the Ohio Q&A), then the school district tax withholding will transfer to Line 10 of Ohio Form SD 100. You may see a red alert indicating that the state is listed twice on the W-2. If you have not duplicated your entries in boxes 16 and 17, this alert may be safely disregarded and will not prevent you from successfully filing your return.
