If you want the sales tax deduction or the state income tax deduction (even though one of them is a greater amount):

1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal (on smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen, then click Federal).
2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions dropdown, then click Sales tax or state income tax deduction.
3. Click the circle next to the deduction you want, then click Continue.
