Reporting Social Security Benefits in TaxAct

Social Security benefits include monthly retirementsurvivor, and disability payments, and they are reported to you on Form SSA-1099. A portion of these benefits may be taxable depending on your income level, and TaxAct will calculate this using the Taxable Social Security Benefits Worksheet.

Note: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is not taxable and should not be reported on your tax return.

How to Enter Social Security Benefits in TaxAct:

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click FederalOn smaller devices, tap the menu in the top-left corner, then select Federal.
  2. Click the Social Security Benefits dropdown.
  3. Continue through the interview process to enter the details from your Form SSA-1099.
