Form 1040 - Removing Penal Income Earned While in Prison or Jail
1
If you see "PRI" printed next to Line 1 of Form 1040, it's because one of the following is true:
You entered an amount of wages received for work done as an inmate in a penal institution (i.e. a prison or jail).
You may have entered wages (or other earned income), and accidentally indicated that the income was received for work done as an inmate in a penal institution. In this circumstance, the TaxAct program may also say that your return is currently not eligible for the Earned Income Credit (EIC) because there is no earned income on the return.
You need to mark wages previously entered as received for work done as an inmate in a penal institution.
To review or remove this entry in the TaxAct program, follow the steps in Form W-2 - Adding, Reviewing, or Deleting to review your Form W-2 entries. Near the end of the interview, check or uncheck the Income earned while in prison or jail box on the uncommon situations screen.
If this text is applicable to your return, determined by the information entered, the TaxAct program will automatically place the text in the correct location on the return. The text will appear on the printed or previewed form.
