Troubleshooting TaxAct Installation Issues

If you downloaded the TaxAct program but the installation won’t start when you click the [filename].exe, the file may have been corrupted during download. To resolve this issue:

  1. Delete the corrupted file from your downloads folder.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

After deleting the file, try these options:

  • Re-download the program from the TaxAct website. A fresh download may resolve the issue.
  • Use a different browser to access the TaxAct website and download the file again.
  • Adjust your browser settings to manually select a save location before downloading.
  • Check your internet connection to ensure a stable download process.
  • Choose "Run" instead of "Save" if your browser provides this option during the download.


Advanced Troubleshooting Steps

If the issue persists, your operating system or security software may be interfering with the installation:

  • Run the installer as an administrator:

    • Download the file again, right-click the download at the bottom of your screen, and select Run as Administrator.
  • Adjust file properties:

    • After downloading, locate the file in your downloads folder, right-click it, and select Properties.
    • Ensure that Read-Only is unchecked and Unblock is checked.
  • Verify Windows permissions:

    • Ensure your Windows settings allow you to install software on your device.
