Fixing AGI/PIN Errors After a Return Rejection

If your return was rejected due to incorrect AGI or PIN information, you’ll see a red alert when attempting to resubmit without correcting the issue. This alert will remain visible until you update at least one of the affected fields.

How to Resolve the AGI/PIN Alert:

  1. Verify and update the AGI and/or PIN fields in your return.
  2. If your rejected return indicated you were a "first-time filer or did NOT file a 2021 tax return", you:
    • Cannot enter "0" for your AGI.
    • Must not uncheck the box confirming you did not file in 2021.

Important: If you truly have no AGI or prior year filing information, you must print and mail your return, as electronic filing will not be possible in this case.

How to Paper File Your Return (Online or Desktop):

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Filing to expand the menu.

On smaller devices, click the menu icon in the upper-left corner, then click Filing.

  2. Select Mail Paper Return.
  3. Choose the appropriate option: FederalState, or both.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to generate and print your return.

This process will also provide you with filing instructions and mailing addresses for both federal and state returns.
