Important Security Updates for the 2024 Tax Season
As part of the IRS Security Summit, all professional tax products across the industry—including TaxAct Professional Edition solutions—must comply with enhanced security requirements to better protect both your data and your clients’ information.
To meet these standards, TaxAct Professional has implemented the following multi-layered security measures for the 2024 tax season:
Multi-Factor Authentication
• You’ll be required to sign in using your TaxAct Account username and password every 24 hours.
• Re-authentication is necessary after 30 minutes of inactivity during a session.
• A unique verification code will be sent whenever you sign in from a new device.
Stronger Password Requirements
• Passwords will expire every 90 days, with reminder emails sent in advance.
• New passwords must meet stronger complexity requirements, including a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, special characters, and a minimum character length.
Account Protection
• After three unsuccessful sign-in attempts, your account will be automatically locked for security.
• Forgot your login credentials? Use the recovery links provided on the sign-in page to reset them.
Bot Prevention with CAPTCHA
• CAPTCHA technology is used during sign-in to verify you're human and to block automated bots—a key step in preventing identity theft.
We understand these additional steps may be an inconvenience, but they are critical in helping safeguard your business, your clients, and the integrity of the tax filing process.
• Check system compatibility: Review TaxAct System Requirements. We recommend using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari (version 13+).
• Stay informed: Bookmark the IRS’s Protect Your Clients; Protect Yourself page for the latest security updates.
• Follow best practices: Refer to IRS Publication 4557, Safeguarding Taxpayer Data: A Guide for Your Business, which includes a helpful checklist for securing your office and client data.
