Form 4868 - Printing a Copy

There are two methods for printing Form 4868. One method is to return to the extension steps, review your entries, and then print a copy of the form. The other method is to use the Custom Print section. Details are discussed below.

Note. Although the current date is requested in this process, the date is not printed on Form 4868.

Extension Steps

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Filing to expand, then click File Extension. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Filing.
  2. The program will proceed with the interview questions for you to review.
  3. On the screen titled Form 4868-Filing, you will have the option to print.

Custom Print
This process requires any applicable product fees to have been paid. This menu may not appear on devices with smaller screens.

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Print Center down the left to expand, then click Custom Print.
  2. Click to expand the FEDERAL Forms folder, then click to expand the Forms and Schedules folder.
  3. Click Form 4868. You may have to scroll down in the Forms and Schedules section to locate the item.
  4. Click Print, then click the PDF link. Click the printer icon or the save icon (available when you hover your mouse over the PDF form) to print or save the PDF copy.

Note for Online users: If you see a message indicating you have not paid your return fees, click the View/Pay your return fees link, which will direct you through the Paper Filing steps. Continue through the screens until you have processed the payment for your product fees and then repeat the steps to print.

Note for Desktop users: If you see a message indicating you need to run a product update, save the changes to your return when prompted. Once you save the return file you will be prompted to run the necessary TaxAct update.
