Recover Your Individual TaxAct Account - Does Not Apply to TaxAct Business Or TaxAct Professionals

To recover your TaxAct account (only available for users of our 1040 Online products):

  • Go to www.taxact.com and click Sign In
  • On the Sign In screen, click Forgot username or the password link
  • Enter your username (it must be the username). If your username is an email, please remember to check the box labeled “I use my email address as my username”. Then select Next
  • On the next screen where it asks to input a code, click the link that says Recover Your Account
  • Fill out the questionnaire with all your CURRENT INFORMATION, including your current email or phone number
  • After selecting Next, you will be taken through questions to verify your identity
  • If your identity can be verified, you will be shown the current email address and phone number on your account. You may update them here if necessary
  • If you update either the email address or phone number, a code will be sent to the updated email and/or phone number to verify the device
  • Once the code is entered, the system will prompt you to change your password
  • Once the password is changed, you will be asked to log in with the new password
