Recover Online Username or Password for TaxAct Individual

Follow these steps if you have forgotten your password:

  1. Click Sign In at the top-right of the TaxAct website.

  2. On the Sign In screen, enter the username, email address, or the mobile phone number associated with your TaxAct account.

    • If you are entering an email or phone number, select if that value is your username by checking This is my username.

  3. Click Sign In.

  4. On the Sign in with Password screen, click I forgot my password.

  5. A verification code is sent to your mobile phone. Enter that code on the webpage. If it is valid, the page will show the next step.*

    • Each code is only valid for 5 minutes.

    • If you did not receive a code, click Resend Code.

  6. A verification code is sent to your email. Enter that code on the webpage. If it is valid, the page will show the next step.*

    • Each code is only valid for 5 minutes.

    • If you did not receive a code, click Resend Code.

  7. Select and enter a new password for your account (requirements are displayed on the screen and shown below). Once each requirement has been met, click Update Password.

  8. You are logged into your account.

  9. (optional) You can go to My Preferences to change how you will receive verification codes, or to update your email or phone number.

 

*Alternative Verification (online only): On the screen Enter the code we sent to your phone and Enter the code we sent to your email, you can click Verify your identity instead. This process will allow you to answer questions about personal information to recover your account. There are five steps to the account recovery process.


Password Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 characters

  • Maximum 100 characters allowed

  • One uppercase letter

  • One lowercase letter

  • One number

  • One symbol (Ex: ! @ # $ %)

  • Cannot start or end with a space
